TUNNEL, TUNNEL, TUNNEL, TUNNEL, TUNNEL...................!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You get the idea! Shocked Very Happy

ffi' and i are both TERRIBLE on ferries. We LOVE the idea............but our stomaches don't. Confused Tried tablets, bracelets, the lot. Confused No dice!

PLUS, there's always our Doug to consider. Our Persian cat goes EVERYWHERE with us. By using the tunnel, we can stay with him in the 'van and not leave him stuck down in the hold, possibly being frightened by strange noises and vibrations.

PLUS PLUS, 35 minutes platform to platform. that gets me in France MUCH faster............nuff said! Very Happy

PLUS PLUS PLUS, of the many times we've used the tunnel, a great deal of those have been cheaper than the ferry anyway, which mean more brass left for "du panne, du vin, du boursin" Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

This is a decision dictated by fare and the shuttle is usually more expensive so it's normally the ferry for us.
It seems to me that Sea France has upped it's game and our last crossing with them two years ago was excellent, and possibly the cheapest we had ever paid.
Luckily our crossings have been in calm conditions in recent years, but I can remember some rough ones which would have been better by shuttle.
I'm a big fan of the Hovercraft actually , but I can't remember if it accepted caravans.

We have tried both ferry and tunnel, and have to say that we prefer the tunnel,
due to the time factor. Smile

I don't think the Hovercraft is still running Dennis. I maybe wrong, and nor is the Sea Cat.

Yes Bob, the Hovercraft has long gone, I actually used it in it's last week of service.
What was exciting about it was that it only took 35 minutes ( almost the same as the Tunnel ) and if the sea was rough this didn't vary much . On a rough day it was like on a roller coaster . it was always very civilised, drinks were served--not queued for .
When you arrived in Dover or Calais and returned to your car , it had been washed by the loading crew during the voyage.
They were wonderful machines but apparently too expensive to operate in comparison to normal ferries and speed ferries.
Happy days

Greetings,
It's a no brainer for me.
The tunnel is free (via Tesco vouchers obtained from my Tesco credit card on EVERYTHING I spend over £5)
The ferry costs money.
Therefore the tunnel for me.

Hi, can you elaborate on the Tesco voucher thing, like how you get the vouchers etc.

Bob

Greetings Sysinfo,
Erm, Sorry for the delay in sending you this . I've been busy (not)

Anyway, I have a Tesco credit card. For every £ I spend in Tesco they give me 1 1/2 points (which equates to 1 1/2p)
For every £ I spend elsewhere than Tesco I get 1/2p.
With me so far?
Every three months Tesco add up all the points, convert them to £ and send me the equivilent in the form of a voucher (or vouchers)
Now I COULD go to Tesco and spend the vouchers and treat them at face value ie a £10 voucher is worth £10 off my bill but I dont.
Tesco have a sceme where the vouchers can be converted at FOUR TIMES THEIR VALUE to may for goods and services at places to which Tesco have formed an association.
It could be at various restaurants, dry cleaning places, theme parks OR
in my case it could be Eurotunnel.
Eurotunnel will accept Tesco Tokens (the tokens are the vouchers after they have been converted to FOUR TIMES THEIR WORTH at face value.)
Example; Next year I am using the Eurotunnel to take car, caravan and two people under the channel for £98. I converted £24.50 of vouchers into £98 worth of Tokens(FOUR TIMES VALUE) to pay for it.
Therefore I paid in effect nothing to use the Eurotunnel service.
I have to eat. I buy food with my Tesco card. Somtimes at Tesco, sometimes elsewhere. I have to pay for fuel, again, sometimes Tesco, sometimes elewhere.
What I can say is that I am on a private pension earning? less than £20000 per year and get, every three months vouchers to the value of at least £25 which pays for, you've guessed it, one trip on Le Shuttle.
I have even used the card to pay for my daughters wedding and also to part pay for my car and my caravan.
In a nutshell, that's how it works. You can get further info by calling in at Tesco and asking for a @deals Booklet or go on line.
Finally, I would add that I have no connection with the aforementioned Supermarket but would like to thank them for providing my passage to France (FOR NOTHING!!!)

That is very interesting. Thank you for that. I shall endeavour to collect as many Tesco points as I can.
