I was asking myself the same question, with regard to a prolonged trip abroad, and feel in the right conditions 2 x 6kg propane would be adequate. But I did like the idea of having a camping gaz 2.7 kg (907) as a back up, that was until I was quoted £44 for the bottle and £19 for the gas, a total of £63-4. Is it cheaper to buy abroad?
I might just take a third 6kg propane.
Regards Drusy

Sometimes questions about what gas to use abroad are a bit like asking how long is a piece of string! When we leave home we have two full 6kgs Calor bottles with us. We tend to go away for 6 or 8 weeks and we have yet to use one full bottle. OK we only use it for cooking and very rarely if the electric goes off in the middle of the night we will switch the fridge to gas. Obviously going in the winter would require more gas and perhaps buying locally is worth thinking about if you need to run the heating on gas. However if you go in the Spring/Summer/Autumn you will be surprised how long gas lasts! Taking a spare Camping Gaz 907 (look at local ads and carboots to pick one up cheaply) isa good 'belt and braces' option as its available all over Europe.

David

Hi David, Chopping your post up is exactly what we do for our trips. Spooky or what.

I use 2 x 7kg calor butane at home and don't have the bulkhead regulator found on newer caravans.

If I found a campinggaz 907 at a carboot sale, what connection/regulator would I need to keep me going if I run out during my two month French trip in a couple of weeks?
