Hello there,
Have just bought my first caravan. The previous owners didn't have any information on what make this caravan is. The only clues i have are that the word CHURCHILL is on the front and back in faded lettering. Also there is a gas lamp inside at the front middle. This may date the caravan about early 1980's, even late 1970's?
Can anyone help to identify this as I need to do some repairs on it.

Matt.

I was quietly wending my way in Google looking for any info on Churchill caravans and I came across this forum. My wife owns (which means I maintain!) a Churchill Senator caravan. She is the second owner and the previous owners didn't so much as look after it, they cherished it! We have quite a bit of the original documentation including a Churchill Caravan brochure of the period which shows the caravan that you have recently bought. I think that I can say with reasonable confidence that it is the Churchill Minister as the fridge stands in a single unit ie has no drawers to the right of it.
I also have the original owners operating manual which gives general details and info on the whole range. As a guide, I have a letter that listed the retail price of our caravan (the Senator) as being £5,400 in 1983 - rather big money but they were rather upmarket vans.
Am busy over the weekend at a dog agility competition near Leyland but will have a look at my paperwork and scan it all. As I'm new to this (or any!) forum business I don't know the protocol about sending attached files etc. No doubt someone will let me know?

I dont see a problem with you passing on the info, just holla at me if you need help.

Rob

PS Swift Group does your EX Churchill man know what chassis were used on these vans? It may help people in the future.

Denbigh is not to far from me what was the name of the company and do they do all caravan parts or is it just brakes?

I have read somewhere that these late 70s caravans were taking advantage of the new Alko range of chassis. Perhaps Alko maybe able to shed some light if they were a supplier to the aforementioned company.

Attachments can be added in postings. Scans would become a picture file. So a jpeg version would no doubt be the lesser size for posting prerequisites.

Details of attachments are labled "Attachment posting control panel " underneath posting reply area..

Hi there,

As promised, I've scanned the Churchill sales brochure which will help in caravan model identification. These caravans appear to be rather up-market (cocktail cabinets?) in the early 80's. Check out the lady's footwear and heel height - just the thing for soft ground!

First three pages attached.

I also have some user's manuals etc for the following equipment which might, or might not, be common to these vans....
Carver Cascade Gas Water Heater
Carver Trumatic Thermostatic Ducted Air Heater
Flavel Vanessa oven
Leisure Princess stainless steel combination unit for sink, two boiling burners and grill
Shurflo water pump
Electrolux RM212A fridge
Omnimax TV aerial and booster system

If anyone is interested in copies of the above, post a message.

Hope that the above and the attachments are of interest and assistance.

Hi there, (part A)

This is the scanned User's Manual and it has a section on brakes that might be of interest or might assist in IDing the brake type. This manual also includes other info about the individual models as well.

Hi there, (part E)

User's manual

PS I dropped page 01 off the attachment list as it was too big a file, but it was only the cover anyway. If anyone does want it, I can re-scan it smaller!

Will attach a 1983 price list tomorrow.

Hi there again,

User's manual - I have attached the front and back pages so that anyone can have a complete looking manual and I've also attached the 1st June 1983 price list.

As I said before, I do have several manuals for the interior equipment if anyone needs copies.

Well done Captain......

I always liked Captain Pugwash...

I worked out how to view the first few pages...

lay on the floor on your side and have a friend click the mouse to view each section... I thought about saving the pictures and rotating them .... or turning the computer screen on it's side but that would have been too easy....

Hi Phil,

There is an easier way - turn the monitor on its side!
