Got a Mondeo (04) Ghia X 2.0 TDI diesel.
Does 45 in normal mode not sure with the van yet only done local runs will update later.
Tows well considering its a 97% tow match.
I have towed for years so no problems with the match, but am changing car next June to a VW Passat TDI Sports 4 Motion the tow car of the year (CCC not CC) gives me a 87% match.
Will be going on a reversing course as well but waiting till I get the new tug.

With regards to the mondeo, no real blind spots, engine revs well if the going gets tough drop it down the box and she pulls for England.

Just bought a hyundai terracan 2.9 crdi, needed a chunky 4x4 to pull us up the mountains and across damp grass, and it did seem good value for it's type. Will let you know how we get on with it and what the fuel consumption is. Going to our 1st rally in November, can't Wait!

And damn it I still can't get those smileys to work

This is what I use for towing my avondale Mayfair (1250kg) Derek the mondeo tows Mavis the mayfair very well indeed I get about the same to the gallon as when im not towing as long as I keep him to 55, trouble is I forget and sometimes have to slow down to 60 even going up long hills...

was a bit worried at first but now I am more than happy he is up to the job..

Would i swop him...erm yes to tow with id like something bigger and heavier on the road so I can buy a coachman pastiche...lol

I have a citroen c5 (54 plate) which pulls ne lunar lexon 640 along with no bother. I can get about 40 - 50 mpg in the car but when i nail the old caravan it drops to about 25 - 30 mpg. The only bonus is its got cruise control so get to 60 in 6th gear set the cc and away we go. woulndn't get another car without cruise control ever again

We have a 54 plate Discovery 3 TDV6 HSE model, and we get about 22-24mpg, towing our Bessacarr at 1895kg. The weight ratio is about 72% so we are well pleased!! Very Happy

We have a Discovery 3 TDV6 HSE towing a 1700kg old square model Hymer.
We had one of the early production ones and now have a 2007 model. Both have been excellent for towing and are lovely refined vehicles; the later one is a touch more economical.
The on board computation of fuel consumption is very optimistic and never been matched by the real returns; typically its 2 mpg out.

Fuel consumption towing is greatly effected by any headwind. On a good day with a 200 plus mile journey it can be just touching 22 true mpg; on a bad one with a 40 to 50 mile tow and a headwind it’s been down to 18.

We have kept detail records for both vehicles and these are showing:

2004 model over 6221 towing miles a true towing consumption of 19.61mpg.
And an average solo plus towing over 14653 miles 21.91mpg

2007 model 2820 towing 20.60mpg and overall 7596 miles 22.30.
Solo it has returned just over 30 on a long haul and 24 for a short minor road and town driving.

Solo it rewards for a long journey, much like many automatic vehicles however we rarely use it this way and its solo mileage is associated with its use when caravanning. So those solo miles are done bumbling about exploring from the sites and thus our fuel returns are inevitably low.

It gives us through vision of what’s behind the van, and it swallows two full size-touring bikes when in its normal 2 seater role. On occasions it’s a viable seven seat car when the family and grandchildren need taking out to dine!
An excellent vehicle that we are privileged to be able to afford to own.

hi all. my name's simon and im new to this site and would like to contribute to the forum.

I tow an elddis typhoon with a toyota rav4 2.0d d4d 115bhp 2003.
this car tows really well,including hill starts which my previous car struggled with. cant comment on fuel consumption because i dare not look because the mpg solo is only 38. there is a couple of negative points with this car as a tow car. because of the spare wheel on the rear door you cannot have a detachable tow bar unless your tyre size is 195, mine however is 215 (gutted) cos i really wanted a gucci detachable one. the other snag with the 215 tyres is that the tow ball height is very low -13.5 inches from ground to centre of ball which in my opinion starts a domino affect of problems ie - low tow ball,caravan weight is transferred forward increasing nose weight, overloading of the swan neck and vehicle rear springs sagging very badly. the solution to my problem was found via M A D Suspensions. these people specialize in air lift suspensions. i chose air lift over heavy duty springs because i can raise the rear until the caravan is near level and when i have finished towing i can deflate the air bags and return to a normal unladen ride where as you know with heavy springs your stuck with that ride.i would also like to add that the car was taken to gt towing in potters bar who confirmed that the tow bar had been correctly installed and it was the correct one for my car. i double checked with brink who also confirmed this info. i never had this problem with my previous car so i never imagined it to be a problem with others, inexperience maybe i don't know but sometimes you don't know you need to know it until you need to know it. hope this helps someone in some way.

I tow with a Fiat Multipla, but as I have yet to go anywhere with the CV(Bailey Pageant Meastro, bought from Ebay for £550 last week) would be really happy to hear from anyone who has experience of towing with the Multipla.

We have a choice of 3 Range Rovers, All run on LPG so I will do miles per pound if thats ok!

My 3.5 ltr carb does approx 7 miles to the pound
My husbands 3.9 ltr efi does approx 9 miles to the pound so does the 4.2 ltr efi one.

So, if you do 30 mile to the gallon on diesel, we are actually cheaper to run our Rangies on LPG than a diesel car at approx. 6.5 miles to the pound.

I have never found a blind spot, with power steering and permanent 4x4 I have never really been stuck either!

Hi all,I have citroen Grand piccasso C4 1.8 vtr+ petrol mpg 29.8 at 4300 mls
cant comment on towing yet as only towed van from dealer to storage
towed easily stable without stabiliser will update when towed some miles.

Hi

I have a Honda CRV 2.2 cdi (136bhp) and tow our Abbey 215 GTS with no problem at all. With careful driving I get 43mpg without the van but this drops to around 30mpg on the few runs I have done so far this year.

With the conditions we had at Easter I would not have wanted to be without the 4x4 option which comes in automatically to teh rear wheels when either of the fronts lose traction.

Hi all,
we are just about to change our Suzuki Grand Vitara to a Nissan X-Trail 2.2 cdi. The Suzuki handled the Bailey Pageant Bordeaux fairly well, but it just needed a bit more grunt for those long hills, if it had a bigger engine then I would probably not change it as I like the selectable 2 or 4 wheel drive. Fortunately the Nissan has that as well and being a heavier car, the match goes from 91% with the Suzuki to 76% with the Nissan. Although the Suzuki was over the 85% recommended, at no stage did it feel as if the tow was unstable, and I would continue to recommend the Suzuki as a tow car but maybe with a slightly lighter van than ours.
