Hi just a simple question on what tow car you have and what are your experiences with it?

What is fuel consumption like.

Are there any blind spots

etc etc

My tow car (before i changed to a MH)

Jeep grand cherokee 2.7 CRD Auto

Fuel consumption seemed to be about the same towing our old van as when it was not it does about 24-25 miles to the gallon

when towing it did 22-25 miles to the gallon with a abboey county dorset on the back.

The view from the jeep is second to none didnt notice any blind spots and it pulled the CV easily.

Only down side was its fuel consumption (and still is) compared to other tow cars this is quite an expensive car to run.

But i am very happy with it

I tow my Swift Challenger with a 2002 Vauxhall Omega saloon 2.2cc

The car is a bit of a gas guzzler before we attach the cv Sad and as you can imagine it doesn't get any better.

The Omega is a rear wheel drive auto, which is fine for normal towing but not really any good over wet grass as tend to get a little bit of rear wheel spin even when in first gear.

Overall I love my Omega. It's a big car for a girl (I've given up counting the number of people, usually males, who think it's my hubbys car lol) but it's a comfortable long distance towcar.

Would I consider changing it... well yes I would but to an estate version - much better for the pooches lol

LOL yes the Omega is a VERY thirsty car but I love it.

As for a lady tugging, well if I didn't we wouldn't get anywhere.
My three point turn is spot on lol and I'm not boasting but I can reverse the whole rig through a field gate Laughing Laughing

I've not been on one of these courses but am thinking of going on one just to brush up on my skills.

I am not a confident tugger and quite like the idea of the course, if the mrs gets her way with the buccaneer then i will have to do one for certain. Twin axel and £15k i think it is worth investing in my driving skills and yes i am man enough to admit i am not the best tugger in the world.

Thank this member for this post Reply with quote

First reply hope I have done it right I am sure someone will tell me pretty quickly if I haven't
Anyway we bought a 2litre Ford Mondeo diesel car to tow our Swift Archwell Barnwell caravan with and it is super. The economy is super.
We did not want a 4x4
It is my everyday car and I found it very difficult to get used to the diesel as I did a stop start journey when I worked. Now retired it is not so bad as I generally go on longer journeys.

Im not technical when it comes to cars and mileage etc, i put fuel in , it runs out i refil it back up thats as far as i go but then thats because i live with a motor technitian and i get fed up of talking cars.

Anyway our tow car now is a 3.9 V8 Range Rover on LPG which im told it nicer to the environment and very economical lol

It was a 1.9 DTI Estate on a T(99) plate.

Hi Folks jsut signed up.

I tow with a new Hyundia Santa Fe CRDT CDX and tow an Ace Jubilee Equerry twin axle van.

Towing I can get between 32 and 35 mpg on a good day but in a head wind this can drop to 28 - 29.

No probs towing you dont relly know the van is there.
