Hello all, Although I have towed various styles & size of trailers over the years, we only started caravanning three years ago.
Have now decided to get ideal van and ordered Abbey Vogue 600 twin axle for delivery at End March 2008.
Now the big question, current vehicle Rover 75 Tourer, is not suitable - should we go 4x4 or MPV?, diesel or petrol /lpg?. What MPG can I expect?
We have a growing family of three boys, 12,7 and 2yrs, with NO plans for any more.
I would like to here from anyone with a similar van (MPTLM 1700kgs) and hear their experience, any advice is most welcome.

Thanks, LittleBuddha

Welcome to the forum with weights like that i would go with a 4x4 as they tug very well and can get you out of boggy fields. Remember that 1700 kgs is quite a weight to stop behind you.

Thats not to say dont get any other car i just like 4x4s for large caravans it makes tugging far more enjoyable

Hi Rob,

Thanks for the advice, sorry in taking a long time to respond- been trawling the motor dealers.
ML270 now looks favorite, I would like to hear from anyone with experience of towing a large caravan with one of these.
I believe that an Auto g/box would be best, but would like some reassurances on this matter.

The ML270 has the same engine as my Jeep and is more than capable of tugging 3.5 tonne of anything behind it. My friend uses one to tug his digger and it pulls it with ease, if you can afford it go for it you wont regret it.
