Are Caravan Rallies becoming a thing of the past,? are we as caravaners becoming like society and very insular in our free time ?
Do we like the luxuries of life too much and favour hook ups, t.v ect. or is it we just like only our own company ?
I swear when i started caravaning fellow vanners would nod ,wave or even flash the lights when passing it seems that the commeradory may be lacking a little nowadays or is it just me getting old!!!

Cool

I am not personally in to rallies and i do like my hook up to much sorry Embarassed

I like CL sites as they are more peaceful i want quiet not lots of noise i am afraid

Im afraid i am with you Billwizzer.
Rallys are only what you make them or what you want to take from them. But like you im a people person. I like making new and interesting friends and having fun. I feel that get togethers do this for me. But each to their own. As people are individuals. I would like more people to acknowledge us when driving. Just as motor homes do. We use to own a motor home and we had fun acnowlegeing them. and their rallys were superb.

It's the same in the motorcycle world. I occasionally get acknowlement, more often from a tourer than a sports bike. We've only used our caravan once and our entertainment was our 14month old daughter. alone on a CL, no TV or radio. Bliss!

Very Happy I’m with you; we have been caravanning for many years and do a lot of rallying, both as marshals and ralliers. We have made a lot of friends and met a lot of interesting people. You may of noticed this is our first post, just joined your forum – lots of good information for caravaners. We would like to go full timing in the caravan once retied, (may be an idea for a forum- full timing that is) so looking for hint and tips. Any rallies scheduled for Derbyshire or Yorkshire, we love these areas.

Hi there,

We have only just posted our first rally, which is to be held in the Cotswolds. Unfortunately the numbers are not what I expected but, there is still time for members to join us if they so wish. (Check out the Rally Page for details.) We were also thinking of holding a rally in September. Maybe Yorkshire could be the venue for that one, if enough members are interested?

Hi,

We have never been on a "Rally" and to be honest I am not sure what to expect from one. Can someone enlighten me as to exactly what a "rally" is please.

Hi there,

first of all may I say that we as Caravanfacts cannot hold Rallies as we don't have the required certificate, but this has been applied for by the big honcho.

As far as "Meets" are concerned, it is basically a group of members who wish to get together at a given venue. There is no set itinerary, but some times one is suggested, but I must insist this it is only a suggestion and not cut in stone.

Sometimes they are themed to a specific holiday during the year such as Easter for example with Easter bonnets etc. Many are a theme which can involve the children as well as brave adults, who through their own efforts, can received prizes.

The venue is usually chosen for its locality and to give as many members as possible the opportunity to attend. The venue should hopefully have a number of local attractions for the members to visit, adults and children alike. It is also a benefit to have a town or large shopping centre not too far away also.

As a suggestion you may like to read Mechanic's post on the first Meet held by this community site, which will give you some idea what went on during that Meet.

If I can help you further, please don't hesitate to get in touch.

I think Welshman has hit the nail on the head.
My wife and I satarted a owners club two years ago and getting people to come along is like trying to get blood out of a stone. After all what else is there when you join a club,we knew nothing about rallying and still probably get it wrong. But what better way of meeting other people with something in common. We always use electric pitches and toilet and showers because of certain models, and there isn't much difference in price.
Yes motorbikers do wave at one another and i think thats nice but caravaners and motorhome owners you never see even somebody with the same make they look at you gone out.

Regards
David

Well after reading the responce's to the question of rallies it don't look good as quite a few seem to like the house on the back of the car, each to their own, i suppose oh well such is life!
I will keep on rallying with the few especially the quiet one's .

We started off with the CL sites and never exected to do any rallies.

Our first was attended last November and now we only want to do rallies. This year we already have 23 booked and still looking to fill in a few more spaces from free weekends.

Yes a rally is what you make of it, but here in teh Suffolk Centre there are a lot of socials laid on with each rally.

The kids get to play with others, have a good run around and us parents get a quiter time compared to a CL site.

If you have not done a rally look at the program and see if something interests you. Then book it and I bet you will want to do another.

People actually talk to each other and make you welcome because they are on a rally and want to socialise. On a CL site I've had times when your lucky to just get a Hello from someone.

Still as they say its horses for courses so we all have to decide what intersts us most.

Paul

Well Well someone that seems to hold a candle for the rally scene
I myself and the wife i should say have run over 150 rallies over nearly 20 years and have catered for kids for a lot of that time and we found that if you keep them occupied WITH the parents ect they are more well behaved (in general) than on normal sites for want of a better word.
Also if they do miss-behave
