Hello peeps!
I'm Jenny and I've just bought my first caravan from Ebay for £56! Shocked

Darren and I got her last night and she has certainly not been loved these past few decades... Crying or Very sad
After a little delving, we think it to be a late 60's early 70's Bailey Mura - 2 berth 10 footer - so it's even older than we first thought Laughing In fact it's about the same age as me Embarassed I hope I've fared a bit better tho Wink

It was a bit cold when we got back with it but here are a few piccies...

In the very cold light of day we've had a root about and found her electrics work. The chintz has been pulled out and the original seat cushions are going to be recovered by myself. A lick of paint here and a bit of elbow grease there, some research about what she should have looked like and we're hoping to return her to her former glory or close enough!

I've emailed Baileys in the smallest hope of being able to gleen some snippets of history about our new baby - the 60th Anniversary publication helped sow the seed - but I am itching to find out so much more about her!

Very Happy

Firstly, welcome from one newbie to another.

Secondly, you do not see many van of that age in that condition, it looks fantastic Our last van was a 1978(about) Bailey Clifton 2/3 berth, lovely to tow and really spacious for it's size.

Good luck and happy trails

Hi, from one newbie to another, welcome! They're a really nice group of people on here, friendly and helpful.
Your van looks in fantastic condition for it's age, by comparison, mine is a right old scruff! (soon sort that out once the weather improves a bit!) Pics are on "Newbie saying hello from Norfolk" in introductions. Paid £50 for it, complete with awning, and the inside is a lot cleaner than the outer shell. I will put interior pics up soon.
Good luck with the restoration Laughing

Thanks for the welcomes folks!
Good progress so far...I have serious boiler face from spending most of the weekend in the caravan without heating Laughing
A woman's work is never done...

I pulled off the chintz from the cushions in a vain hope that the original covers might be ok.

They weren't

Shame. The original marterial was nice

So, I've been recovering like mad but I'll save the details for another day Laughing I've also got some groovy material for curtains

The old mat came up to reveal a sodden bit of carpet unfaded

New carpet will be purchased and fitted.

I thought the old handles were past it on all the drawers etc

But a bit of Astonish and voila, they'll be salvageable

The first attack on the hob

Irritatingly the hob wire top won't come off to allow proper cleaning Mad

I am in two minds whether to persevere with cleaning this piano hinge though

but I can be as stubborn as rust so watch this space Laughing
We managed to unseal the 'barn' door of silcone so it opens

The sink came up like new

The original sticker is hanging on in there

but it's a shame I can't read the suppliers one

and there was another on the side that is totally illegible now.

A few war wounds on the outside

but none have punctured her

Crumples are 'in' this year, so I hear Laughing

We've just got to get a regulator for the gas to be hooked up, a new water pump and some bits and bobs for the jockey wheel bit that sits at the front - and then it's a bit of paint and off we go. Sadly some numpty has painted thick black gloss over her original red stripe outside so I will have to coordinate anew stripe with my beetle orange.

Let the fun continue Laughing

Through further basic investigations, I am now wondering if it isn't in fact a Bailey Maru, 10ft 2 berth model.

My email to Baileys helpdesk got bounced back so I'm going to have to contact them again. I'm itching to find out what model our little podlet is! Shocked Laughing

It's all good fun though I have to say Very Happy

I haven't had a reply from Baileys to me email requesting a 60th Anniversary badge and any possible info about my caravan, sadly. I addressed it to Kelly.

Anyhoo, update
hub caps coming clean

definately a Maru

looks a mess, but it's all coming together nicely

cast no aspersions on my culinary skills...just had to have this

a hint of the curtains to come

Got 2 coats of paint on inside now and it's ready for soft furnishings, new carpet and sundries like the new water pump, new trim to put round the windows, a gas bottle to be connected and then stand back and see if the hob etc works Laughing

Lots to do this weekend! Very Happy
