Aha! Well our shakedown willbe in 2 weeks time for a long weekend watching the drag racing etc at Santa Pod. Not exactly the idea camp out but after that we'll be on a trip up to the lakes with our camper so the caravan will have to wait til June when we take her down to Rochford in Essex Very Happy

We've finished the interior by the way...
Flying rubber duckies in situ in the reading room

£2 Ikea lighting

carpet went in when it finally stopped raining long enough for us to actually cut it out

curtains went up and look great

handles all Brasso'd

cushions in

broke the reading room window latch Sad

but we celebrated the completion of the interior in true brit style

The Pimms will come out when it's completed some time this week I expect Laughing

Jenny,

That brings back memories. About 7 years ago we had an almost identical Bailey caravan, which was out first caravan. We paid £250 for it, and I can tell you we had loads of fun with it. I think out first trip in it was to Widdicombe Farm in Devon. We sold it a couple of years later for £200 I think, a relative of mine bought it, again for a 1st caravan.

I don't suppose you have any photos of your caravan do you? I'd love to see others to compare it with mine Very Happy

It's been hard work but we're glad it's almost over. I have to decide where to put the Bailey commemorative badge yet. Just a shame they didn't get back tome to verify what we've got (even though I am certain it's a Maru). I'd love to get my hands on old brochures/adverts etc Confused

Here's one for you all to take a peek at. The biggest chore will be to clean and scrub inside and out. It's all original - even with the gas lamps.

The cushions and any fabric will probably have to be dicarded. Lots of mice ran around in this camper during the two years it sat in a field.

If anyone knows anything about this caravan, let me know. I don't quite understand the hitch/brake system. Apparently, when the tow vehicle slows or stops, the hitch moves forward and pulls the trailer's brake cable.

I'm also looking for a source for manuals for this rig.

I'll try to post pictures as the clean-up moves along.....

More pictures can be seen at http://www.classifiedadphotos.com/bailey.htm

Its quite amazing that the Caravan was still in quite good condition for its age. Also on how well you have spent your time and produced an excellent job on the insides. It will be nice to see when you give another update on your hard work and whas happened to teh outside.

The first time I went through the camper it was in December, the dead of winter with lots of snow, so I didn't get to look real close at everything. My next visit was just recently (end of May) ....... BTW, I have been negotiating with the owner these 6 months......... and I had a chance to look it over from stem to stern.

My original plan was to rip everything out and start with just the shell.

To my surprise, and delight, the caravan is in much better shape than I previously thought. Yes, it will take lots of work, but I hope to bring her back to life as she once was.

I probably won't get to use it this camping season. But, since I'm planning on retiring next year, this project will be an inspiration for me to take my time and do the refurbishing the right way.

i just found a document on the web http://www.caravanning4u.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?p=45696 that seems to indicate that my Bailey is a 1965 Mikado S rather than a 1964 Mikado T. I sent an email to Bailey with the camper's serial number and a photo or two so they can help me. I'm getting the impression that this RV might be a rare find.....

An update to my previous post regarding the year and model of my camper: According to the Bailey Caravan Company, my unit is a 1969 Mikado T. This is certainly enlightening. Plus, they're sending me some original brochures!

Full-time employment doesn't allow me much time to work on the camper. I have to set a goal for what I want to accomplish and then set about doing it. I will say that I have done a lot of little things that will help move progress along later on.

I pick up the new front window tomorrow.

Well as long as you keep keen then I'm sure that even with full time work you will start to notice results.

We are all looking forward to the future updates and images as you progress.

Just caught up with all your progress! You've done a fantastic job and your site with all your progressive pics is great Very Happy You have a pic of the brochure too! Shocked Cool

I am glad to say we've had lots of happy trips out in ours since I did it up and I am most envious that you seem to have had some helpful information from Bailey's themselves whereas I didn't.

I don't suppose you could tell me a model number or such like for your little gas heater could you? We're looking for one Laughing
