Thanks guys for the reply's
the satfinder website will be really useful
one thing I have noticed using it (the website) there were some fairly tall trees 150m away (east direction) from where I had positioned the dish would this effect the signal, I did a rough test on the good signal i found and if you walked directly in front of the dish you lost the signal - walk 5 m in front and it was OK
so could the trees have blocked the 28.2 sat? i did check further east thinking that I may have got the astra 19.2 sat (which I was obviously on) but no signal was found.
any comments welcome
Cheers

I think you were right on there about the trees and you probably were on 19.2 the elevation on 28 degrees is considerably lower in the sky so more prone to trees . get a satfinder With a bit of practice you will soon have the knack
all the best

It depends how much you will use it ,but i bought a digital sat finder (not 1 of them with the needle or the beeps but the same as sky use)and it now takes me about 2-3 mins to set up the dish with a good signal.
Also to make things a little easier. The bigger the dish the easier it is to get a good signal. |

I got my finder from maplins and was about to thro it away after no luck with it till i re read the instructions ...now i get sky in about 10 seconds every time and it cost £8......line it near south... then switch the finder back and forward the put the poiinter on 5 then adjust the dish left or right till the pointer moves to best reading .... move dish forward or back if signal not there yet and u should have no problems ....i always get questions when on a site '' how do I do it'' so now you know |
