I noted whilst away this weekend, the variety of bbq used, I had a disposable, but i guess these would not be allowed on many sites

I would like to invest in something a bit better, the sort I saw that I initially like were the round hotplate type that stood on 3 legs, i would suggest that it needs to pack away to fit in the "gas bottle" locker at the front of the caravan

the next thing is that our caravan does have a external gas point for this purpose, it has a "quick release" type connector on it, is this special and will I need to get a fitting to put on the pipe of the BBQ

any suggestions greatly appreciated

cheers

The choice of BBQ is a personal one on what you exactly want. I like the hot plate ones as I have recently seen these. However I do have concerns about the time on setting up and putting away and storage size.

Last year I opted for a cheap £15 gas one. Its roughly 18" x 9" in size with a couple of swinging metal legs. You should see these in most dealers but the link below shows what mine is like. I do store mine in a plastic storage box whilst on the move and then it can easily be put in the shower or awning depending on what you want to do. I'm trying to keep as much out of the front locker as possible.

As for the coupling on the outside of your Caravan a connector will be required which I would expect ay dealer to hold. Not sure of the actual price but would expect this to be below £10.

Just take a look at all the options before you decide, see how much setting up is required and how they can be stored.

Paul

I like my Webber Baby Q on its stand but that is personal preference, its reasonably heavy and is quite big. I use it at home and while away in the van. The problem with it is the grill requires a grubtub (medium) to be cleaned, not a problem for us as we have a big caravan but i guess it would be for most, we carry the grubtub anyway so that is not an extra just for the BBQ.

The round type you mention is a CADAC they are supposed to be very good (i bought one for the outlaws for Christmas but they are yet to use it Sad) so i cannot say how good they are but i do know there are many extra bits for cooking that you can buy.

Visited my brother-in-laws over May bank holiday they had the CADAC BBQ and once built (1st time out) it cooked up a storm.
Lots of xtras you can buy. Might invest in one myself if this weather keeps up.
Cool

I've had a Cadac for about a year now. Very good cannot fault it. Use for all my meat cooking, have done eggs on it and all veg. Got the wok thing for it so will give that a go this year.

Hi
I would also endorse the CADAC Gas BBQ. I have had one for 3 yrs now and I must say it is perfect. Its not the cheapest but it is well made and cooks great. The cooking plate is double sided. One side is ribbed for normal bbq food and the other side is smooth for cooking eggs etc.

Hope this helps

Do these pack away very small?
Obviosuly the cooking plate is at a particular size, but how quickly and small does the whole thing close up?

Hi Paul

It all folds down into its own waterproof zipped bag, size approx slightly bigger than the bbq plate.

I take it that these are a solid plate?

If so does it not take away the point of a BBQ as no flames etc are actually getting to the food?

Certainly a great idea for cooking the eggs and bacon.

Paul

I don't doubt about the taste. I just remember the hoo ha that many people created when the gas BBQ arrived "Not the same as Charcoal!".

Still I love a good burger, especially from a burger van so these would cook in almost the same way.

That was the only reason I asked, I may have opened a can of worms now. Rolling Eyes

I have one of these too..they're nice and compact and do well for the family as well as freinds too. Good value IMHO.
