|
|
Renovating my cassette after it spilling the effluent all over the site from the vent hole, bought a replacement vent seal, fitted through the blade hole, then found float missing, obviously gone down the drain. Then bought a replacement float and after several attempts managed to fiddle it into place. the problem is the float dos'nt stay put, and after 2/3 operations of the blade it drops off, all this manipulation takes place thru the blade hole and is done by feel, I know when the float is in place correctly as it seals the holes, until it drops off again.
Has anyone else had this experience, i think something else is either broken or worn, a new cassette is over £80 and I'm on a budget.
Thanks for any help/advice. |

I've not heard of this before but someone on here may have done.
Have you trying talking to a mechanic at you rlocal dealers? They are usually happy to give good advise even if their company is not going to get any work from your issue.
Good luck and let us know how you get on.

Thanks Paul,
Here in darkest essex, dealers, help !!!, if you approach the workshop theres normally a wolf tied by a chain, and a spotty youth in a secondhand set of gas board overalls working on someones 15 grand van with a club hammer and a pipe wrench, who says, we only do warranty work, speak to the office. Swiss Tony then appears, who will give you £800 part exchange against a twenty grand van. Help!!! not this end of the country, pass Watford and they have time for a natter, and a mug of tea.
I am obviously disillusioned with dealers having bought 4 new vans in my time, and been slaughtered every time. |

Thanks Paul,
You never know, someone may have a solution.
I have thought of temporarily pluging the hole, do you have any idea what it actually does? when the thing is used the blade is open and vented to air It would not be in use for more that a day or two, before being emptied so the build up of gases, i dont think should be a problem. Having used the old style porta poti and varients in various vans I cant remember any problems with venting on these, perhaps this my be the solution?
Just an aside, whose backside do you think was considered in the design, my grandchildren think it is just for their use, not grown ups Ha ha.
Good Luck and Good Night. |

Well it certainly wasn't the wifes or mine.
All I know is that however long I'm away that is one part of the home comfort that I look forward to using which is certainly far more comfortable.

Hi there,
I have had this problem in the past with my motorhome unit. When you place the parts together, are you pushing the lever mechanism up far enough until it clicks? There is a moulded split collar on the internal fitting around the rotating knob which is yellow in colour. However, I have to say that mine did the same thing constantly, I just got better and quicker at putting it back together again. Not the best of jobs to be doing. If all else fails go to a caravan service centre, and I am sure they will be able to help or at least give advise. Best of luck. |

Spending more time with this than vanning, any how, found an interesting item elsewhere, similar problem, the vent hole is there to equaliser the pressure, should you take your van to mountainous regions, if blocked the build up of pressure could cause a blowback, when used.
I think this is over kill, as having taken porta pottis up mountains never heard of this happening, and none of the beer cans and wine popped either.
Who would travel with a used cassette, even if used for an emergency stop,
its not going to contain a large amount, and what would be the problem with leaving the blade open 1/2 an inch or so.
The chances of my van finding any mountainous regions in darkest Essex are remote, unless you consider the QE dartford bridge high.
So I think I have found the perfect solution, a discarded baby dummy fits the hole perfectly, with a little silicon seal it, da dah, problem solved.
the only danger is that the grandchild may see his favourite dum dum if he comes with you when you are servicing it, then you have to explain that the fairies never really took it in the night. ha ha |
