I'm thinking of spending two or three months in Spain this winter, travelling from Calais to the east coast of Spain. I'm struggling to find good overnight halts in France as most are closed during the winter. However I feel sure there are many on this forum who have done this trip before and know both the ideal route and the best overnight stops. I'm not in any particular hurry and therefore would prefer to travel about 200 miles per day, 250 max.

Any suggestions please?

Halli

we have done this trip in the winter and as you say it is not easy to find French sites that are open all year. you will definatley need the caravan clubs europe touring book for france which seems to list most of all year sites. we stayed in some weird and wonderful sites mostly very empty and some very muddy but also some nice ones. I dont think there is much point in listing the exact sites we stayed at as you obviously will have your own route of choice but just wanted you to know its quite possible to use sites right through france during the winter

Thnaks Yorkshireman

I'll spend some time these wet August days ploughing through the CC Europe book, knowing there is something there.

Still a little sketchy at present.

Probably travel mid November and head towards Costa del Sol after travelling down western side of France. However, if we travel down the east coast we may stop for a while on Costa Brava or Blanca.

Plan to return in February or early March.

if your thinking about stopping anywhere near benidorm the sites get very full and there are quite a few that won't allow dogs. we found a great site within a few mins of the beach at Calpe.

I disagree with the previous poster about the caravan club France and Spain guide this was invaluable and proved the only guide that you could rely on especialy in france, obviously things do change but if you buy this years copy you should be ok for this winter.

dont forget to take a 2 pin electric convertor for the hook up!
