Anywhere it can be clipped without stretching it, except around the towball, as it can come adrift. The main duty of the breakaway cable is what it says. When the caravan breaks away from the towing vehicle the cable puts the brakes on the caravan. |

Around the bar behind the plate that protects the bumper, clipped onto itself in a loop.

NEVER put the breakaway cable round the towball. When I ran Caravan Club Courses it was one of the things we impressed on the class. If the van could come off so could the cable. |

The only comment i have on this not that you are incorrect is, any towed item that weighs less than 750kg and is un-braked has to by law have a second way of hitching it to the vehicle it usually consists of a chain that goes over the tow ball first before attaching the hitch. I do wonder if it is safe for this to happen due to the fact that the actual tow ball can come away from the vehicle. That being the case why cant you put the breakaway cable around the tow ball? I am just playing devils advocate. |
