This is my first twin axle van. Last time we were away I really struggled to get the side to side level right on the van.
In the past with a single axle van I have just run one wheel onto those plastic ramps you can buy and this has always worked well. I was a bit stumped as to what to do with the twin. Do you just put two ramps in a line and run the wheels over both? Does one move as you go over them? Should I cut and carry a piece of scaffold board long enough to drive both wheels onto?
Can anyone help? What do you do?

Hi Rob,
I have spent most of the spring sorting out my garden (hence not having got away much) so I acquired a couple to help with that (loading skips and things) so I will cut up one of those. Not sure whether to carry one or two lengths though? Its storing them. I use scaffold board to go under my steadies as well and I find that works well.

Do you have underbed storage? or would they go at the bottom of the wet locker?

My aim will be to put them in the front locker, I will probably take one longer one and two shorter ones I think, just in case Smile

Gareth

Yours is same as mine

You should have got an Alko kit with yours

Mine was hidden in one of the front lockers in a black holdall

It contains 2 x Alko secure things
1 x Jack for Alko chassis
and a winding thing and a wheel brace

You are supposed to Jack the caravan side up with the jack located in a vertical plate just behind the rear axle until you are at the required height. The problem is that your wheels will drop so you need to go beyond the required height to do the job according to the book and then drom the van down on to levelling blocks or ramps. At the same time you are supposed to position your wheels in order to fit your ALKO secure wheel locks into the receptors on the chassis.

My way and probably everyone elses is...

judge how much you require to level and then reverse your caravan up a levelling ramp and then bung one of those locking wedges in. Once correct you can either forget the other axle in this case the front one or you can from the correct hieght you are at jack up the van as above and put a second ramp under the front axle or even a block would do.

it's not easy to use two levelling wedges at the same time on both the axles on the same side

Confused .... you will be if you read the instructions which come with the kit

Hi Phil,
thank you for your in depth answer I will try this next time I am out. I have found using short lengths of scaffold boards or even decking boards to be the easiest way so far, I put one long ways infront of one of the wheels and the other one width on between the two wheels and then just run the van up onto them while the van is still on the car. I then chock the wheels to stop it moving off. I don't always fit the alko locks while on site as I have a separate wheel clamp but always fit them when in storage. Thanks again for your answer, I will give it a try.
Gareth.
P.S I wish now I had bought a Wyoming rather than a Louisiana, I am tempted to change to this layout but can't afford a series six after having had this van for only two years, so might consider buying a little used series five trade in. We miss an end washroom.

You will certainly get plenty of takers for the Louisiana as it is still one of the most desired caravans around - unless of course you are looking for the end washroom.

When admin manage to get my Wyoming review up on the board, you will see what I think of the Wyoming. Mostly good but the odd niggle.
