We are now an ex-motorhomers having realises that it was not for us so have now gone back to caravanning after a very expensive mistake trying to "Live The Dream". Now an ex MHF member.
We have realised that we were persuaded to climb onto a band-wagon, something we don't normally do, and although we investigated it well we found that we were travelling from one campsite to the next without seeing any of the places we wanted to visit because we couldn't park the thing!
Many of the popular places on the continent were plagued by MHs parked everywhere and if there was a space then there was probably a barrier.
This country is a joke for parking as more and more barriers go up.
Yes, it was convenient to just drive off without winding up the legs etc. but who cares anyway - we are retired and have all the time in the world! We tried towing a car but that defeated the object of an MH as it was more trouble hitching it up than a caravan.
Our dealer actually admitted that they had bought other MHs back this month after others found the same problems as us. He also said that he now uses a caravan rather than an MH.
So here we are back to tugging after 18 months. Have just spent 2 nights in our new van and realised what draughty things MHs are. Had more problems with the MH than we have ever had with any of our caravans.
So if any members are thinking of going down the MH route then give it more thought that we did. We had doubts and should have heeded them. Keep your money in the bank, Wish we had as it just wasn't for us. I am sure that many do enjoy it as there appears to me more on the road than C/vans these days. |

We had thoughts of buying a midi sized bus and converting it to a MH. It would be a lot of work though.

My advice is if you want to do it then go ahead try it for yourself!!!!!
You may love it, i guess it all depends on how you like to camp. I could not get used to having to pack the van up every time and then try to fnd a parking space anywhere near where we wanted to go. Sometimes just getting into a supermarket was a sheer nightmare. |
