Can anyone give me some advice on this one,

after thinking long and hard about which system to buy (expensive or cheap and cheerful) - I plumped for the cheap and cheerful after reading loads of post on various forums it seemed an OK system for occasional use

I used it for the first time this weekend and struggled to get the system to find UK channels, it found hundreds of european channels

So, I think I am on the wrong satellite - check the instructions, 28deg east astra OK - 28 deg astra selected on the receiver - signal strenth 94% signal quality 70% - according to the instructions everything is OK but still no UK channels Rolling Eyes

Anyone had experience with this type of system, the satellite installation must be OK because its picking up channels

One last note I could pick up the the europian channels on the 28 deg astra satellite but not the UK ones, I did note that when the polarity on the selected channel was H (horizontal) all was OK, the V polarity channels would not come on

the dish was on the jockey wheel,

Any advice welcome

Thanks Bomber Very Happy

I use the following website to get the setting for the dish, then fine tune and it works eveytime.
You have picked up the eurpoean sat by mistake.

Thanks guys for the reply's

the satfinder website will be really useful

one thing I have noticed using it (the website) there were some fairly tall trees 150m away (east direction) from where I had positioned the dish would this effect the signal, I did a rough test on the good signal i found and if you walked directly in front of the dish you lost the signal - walk 5 m in front and it was OK

so could the trees have blocked the 28.2 sat? i did check further east thinking that I may have got the astra 19.2 sat (which I was obviously on) but no signal was found.

any comments welcome

Cheers

If your a Caravan Club member I believe that there was an article in their magazine (roughly April edition) on setting up a Satellite system.

When you are locked onto the satellite that you think is foreign, make a note of a few channels you are getting and compare it to www.lyngsat.com. At least then you'll know which sat your locked onto and which way you need to be going with the dish.

Remember 28E Astra2 (UK channels) has a slightly different elevation to Astra1 and hotbird. So if you are getting Astra1 and Hotbird easily, if you alter your elevation slightly shallower, you have more chance of getting Astra2.

I think you were right on there about the trees and you probably were on 19.2 the elevation on 28 degrees is considerably lower in the sky so more prone to trees . get a satfinder With a bit of practice you will soon have the knack

all the best

It depends how much you will use it ,but i bought a digital sat finder (not 1 of them with the needle or the beeps but the same as sky use)and it now takes me about 2-3 mins to set up the dish with a good signal.
Also to make things a little easier. The bigger the dish the easier it is to get a good signal.
