Bailey

Whilst out on the road we seem to see more Bailey Caravans than almost anything else.

We are interested to know how many times a year you use your caravan?

Do you just go on summer holidays or are you ardent rallyers who are away every weekend?

I'm not a Bailey owner but we are away for around 60+ nights per year. Its not viable for me to spend £5K + on a Caravan and then just use it for 2 weeks a year. We generally go from early February right through to early December. Mainly on rallies but with a few CL sites inbetween.

Now you being the Managing Diretor of Bailey will be aware of your market share which I believe the CC recently published in their magazine. I was suprised to see how much of a share you have. Not because of the product but merely on how many manufacturers are out there and the amount of models available.

Unfortunately I have to purchase second hand and therefore are restricted as to what is available at the time.

Being a proud Bailey owner we try to get away twice a month
just to local sites in kent and we have a 2 week main trip
further afield in Augest

We bought our used bailey in 2005 and up until last year went out once a month touring, this year we have sited it as a seasonal from easter to october so far we have been away to the caravan every weekend and school holdays/bank holidays since easter

we love our bailey and our next caravan will be a bailey too nothing better for us

I dont have a Bailey and i dont get out in the van enough Sad

I do find (In North Wales mainly on the A55) i see alot more Swift Vans than any other brand.

Nick are sales up on caravans over the past few years? I know i am struggling with the credit crunch and the price of fuel it costs me £100 a week to go to work in my car (ok its a 4x4) but it is for multi use, Tending the land, tugging the van and commuting. I see lots of CV's in North Wales but we are a tourist area so its no different but i do find lots of CV sites a full up so need to book well in advance.

we too are proud Bailey owners, and as I work abroad on a five week rotation, it is a standing order from the boss that we get away at least once or twice when I am home besides the summer jaunt away. We go away even through winter and have had no complaints about the cold, the level of insulation on modern vans is out of this world.

Hi Nick
We have recently purchased a new S6 and took it to the South of France for our first 3 week trip. BIG MISTAKE!
The gas fire knob was disconnected, the loo tank locker was awash with flush fluid (Pump had fractured) and the drawer above the fire not only self closed but also self opened (Would only stop shut with nothing in it, with the help of copious amounts of blue tack)
Dealer at York, who is 40 miles from us, had the caravan for a week and failed to fix the fire correctly. I had removed the battery as it continued to spark (I had informed the dealer of this) They clearly had not checked the fire, as there is no sparking now and the fire is again hanging off and only held by the retaining wire. The dealer was unable to readily obtain some parts on our snagging list.
But we love the van, which we had intended to use every week. So far, we have lost 3 trips because of our problems.
To top it all, the dealer insists we return the caravan before work can be done. Why can't they come to us, as its their error?

Just "upgraded" from a Senator Arizona to a Senator Wyoming. We used the Arizona for two main 1 - 2 week trips a year plus maybe 6 shorter 2-4 day trips.

We finally decided that we "had to have" a fixed bed but we did not want to lose the spacious washroom facility of the Arizona. That, unfortunately, meant opting for a twin-axle van as any single axle with a fixed bed that we looked at had a tiny washroom (the type where, quite literally, you could shite and shower simultaneously).

Delighted with the Wyoming but one problem - I will have to have a motor mover fitted as, with the Arizona, my wife and I could manually swivel it through the three-point turn that is necessary in our (gravel) driveway. Trying that with the twin-axle Wyoming threatened to invoke hernias all round!

Just one interesting side-issue to that. Having ordered a Powrtouch Model 6 mover, I was advised that the spare wheel carrier would need to be removed (or moved). The representative suggested just removing it and then storing the spare wheel under the bed. That seems a great solution. If I ever get a puncture on the motorway in the rain, I would far rather retrieve the spare wheel from under the bed than bugger about with a low-slung carrier under the chassis. So here is a suggestion: Why don't Bailey provide spare wheel storage under the bed as standard on fixed bed vans??

A caravan motor mover is wonderfull for pitching onto some smaller French & Spanish sites and we had our mover swapped on to our new Vermont. We prefer single axle vans, to obtain a good end bathroom, which the Vermont has. Also, many French Municipal sites do not allow twin wheel units and I believe its cheaper at motorway toll booths abroad and on the ferry/tunnel.
If we can get our snagging faults sorted, we might actually start enjoying our new Vermont.
The latest news on that is the dealer will come to us, at a charge of £75 - Cheeky b..... Is this what we should expect from purchasing a premium caravan, I don't think so!

They are pulling your wire!!

If you bought the Vermont new this year, they are obliged to repair any faults (or replace the caravan or refund the full purchase price) totally at their own expense and also to pay you compensation for any inconvenience, loss of use or consequential expenses. A manufacturer's or retailer's warranty cannot deprive you of those statutory rights.

I suggest that you contact your local Trading Standards Department without delay. If what you say is correct, they will make absolute mincemeat of your suppier (and I suspect that it is the retailer rather than Bailey who are the niggers in the woodpile on this occasion.

another proud new Bailey owner here (Ranger 620/6), just back from our first outing, and already booked 3 more, two weekends and a week break, we will be using it as often as possible for weekends as well as one of our Familyb holidays each year.

I am very used to the Sale of Goods Act thanks, but don't wish to upset my dealer any more than necessary. I have made contact with them, after they failed to respond to 2 messages left on their answer machine and.... not holding my breath, they have arranged to come next week F.O.C. to do all outstanding work.
Now we can look at CCC Out & About for holiday sites & weekend rally for asap.
YIPPEE!!!

Glad you got it sorted out. It sounded as if the dealer was upsetting you, rather than the other way round! But all's well that ends well.
