|
|
Hi Happy Camper,
No, there doesn't seem to be any specified place for a battery. There are several places where one would fit, but nowhere to plug the +ve and -ve terminals on to. Hence the request for advice. Have got a cupbaord full full of consumer unit, fuses and regulator but no obvious 'tapping in' point.
Best regards

Hi,
Thanks for the interest. My van has the usual 240V AC hook-up which feeds a consumer unit. The consumer unit must hold the transformer since it has a bank of 5, 12V fuses. There are 2 x 5 Amps for lights, 2 x 10 Amps and 1 x 15 Amp for the fridge. There is then a regulator which I presume is a rectifier to convert to 12 DC, though one of the fuses is marked 12 AC. Doesn't really matter about battery charging as I can either charge before hand or put a charger in to re-charge when hook-up available.
Regards

Ok, the best way to tackle this is, firstly establish where the main feed to the 12v system is, probably the transformer by the sound of things. Replace the main feed with your leisure battery. Then as you are unsure if you have a charger or transformer at the moment, connect one of these (ebay number 360054101531) to the battery.
So in theory the 12v power will be supplied by the leisure battery, but then when on mains hook-up the battery will be charged by the charger. If you then disconnect the battery, the charger will then work as a transformer. Don’t forget to fuse the battery feed and take the mains AC to the charger, from an RCD.
It is very difficult to be more specific without seeing the van in the flesh.
If in any doubt whatsoever I would recommend taking your van to an independent repairer for a professional opinion!
Hope this helps
