After researching the ferry crossing prices, we have decided to go Eurotunnel for a change. Fery prices were coming out at about £164 return for a Kia Sorento towing a 23foot van travelling 1/06 returning 6/8. By the time we had done an overnight at Blackhorse site i am sure many of you will have used it, had a meal in the pub, had a breakfast on the ferry at £192 return we did not think it was too bad, and it only takes 35 mins. What do you all think? Would like feedback please |

Hi there frenchfancy,
Now there is a funny thing, I also have been looking at this years prices for ferry crossings.
Up until recently, I owned a motorhome and last year I travelled return journey from Dover to Calais for £82.00 around the same dates as this year. This year I will be taking my new caravan and car. The lowest price I have been able to get is £240.00 travelling late June returning second week in July. We have been thinking of travelling by Eurotunnel ourselves. We have travelled with Eurotunnel before, on a bus trip and I have to say, what a nice journey it was, quick and quite. Down side is you have to stay with your vehicle, but you are allowed to stretch your legs within the confines of the train.
Now that I know the price range, I will seriously consider this as an option. Thanks for the info.

Hi there folks,
Just a question, is there a cheap time to book Eurotunnel or Ferry crossings during the year? Eurotunnel has just quoted me £288.00 and the Ferry companies have quoted £280.00 plus £25.00 for my dog to travel in my own vehicle for late June, returning second week in July?

In a simple answer no. you will fid the prices go and up and down but no real time to know when, you just have to keep your eye on it. |

If you have Tesco vouchers you can use those to book Tunnel crossing we have just used ours and have been able to pay completely with vouchers so we feel we have a free crossing. |

we used tesco points for our tunnel crossing in june. It was a very smooth operation, simply key in the booking number on a touch screen, had a physical check on the gas and on.
We got there a couple of hours early both going and returning and with both we were entrained an hour early.
We however prefer the ferry, as we get a better sense of "going away"
mind you when I have sufficient tescop points I will use the tunnel |

Tunnel EVERY time for us I'm afraid We're both terrible sailors, can just about handle a rowing boat on the local duck pond!
.........besides, my personal opinion is that the tunnel is THE way to get "across" the channel. It's clean, fast, smooth, quiet, I can sit in the comfort of my own vehicle, I can stay with my beloved cat (not that ithe travelling bothers him in the least! ).
We've used it with British motorhomes, huge American RV's and this year will be our first time with a caravan. Wouldn't dream of getting across any other way. |

Hi french fancy, my hubby and I have travelled down to Spain for a few months every Winter for the past 15 years and every year we get the prices for different crossings to calculate the cost, we have tried them all and for me it's the Portsmouth Caen overnight crossing going down and on the return we stay overnight on the docks. I know it sounds a lot cheaper to do Dover Calais or the tunnel, but if you add on the extra fuel costs and overnight stops plus the extra driving time, you are much better off paying more for your ferry and being more relaxed....but that's only our opinion.
By the way if there is anyone out there that can use Caravan club vouchers for two free nights (have to be CC members and they have to be used by the end of Aug) please let me know |
