We wanted some extra security for our caravan as its not parked at our address but on a friends driveway instead.

We are considering a wheelclamp and an alarm of sorts, does anyone have any recommendations ?

I have a wireles alarm on my house and have fitted a PIR and a magnet sensor to the door and given the MH its own zone. It works brilliant its cheeper and it does not drain the van battery. The only thing is its no good when you are away Very Happy

I will move it over to the CV when we move back.

im sure they do alarms for caravans, a friend of mine has one of those shed alarms in their caravan , the only downside is youhave to keep replacing the batteries.

Just found these as i am not sure if you have hookup at your friends so battery drain may be a problem but with this solution apparently not and it doesnt cost that much either.

Also so more info on them here with links to other suppliers

In my opinion alarms just do not work on caravans. I have nearly 20 years experience with alarm systems for motorhomes, and my Company is the UK distributor for Strikeback which is the only Thatcham approved alarm available that is aimed directly at the motorhome market. We do not alarm caravans as it is a waste of time!

Much much better is a good well tested tracking system! Sorry but that is the reality Phantom is the one that we recommend

All the details can be found here http://www.outdoorbits.com/product_info.php/products_id/575

No doubt there will be people here that will disagree! Hey it is a free world but look at these discounts available by having Phantom fitted and show me an alarm that we receive the same backing from insurers?

Club Care - up to 25% discount per year

I have a Nemesis wheel clamp and a Saracen hitchlock, the wheel clamp is a bit cumbersome and not the easiest to fit but I suppose it would be as difficult to remove for a thief, the hitchlock is fine to use and would recommend it. The Alarm is a concept gold as required by our insurance and works well.

The new van came with Buldog Wheel clamp, Hitch lock, Conrenr steady locks, and a alarm. Now if they get past that lot they realy do want my van and no amount of security is any good. I dont see the point of a tracker, it costs alot of money you have to pay a yearly subscription for it you only get approx £50 off your premium for it and to be honest if someone did knick your van do you really want it back aftery they have been using it?

I agree Rob, I have two Alco wheel locks supplied with the van, a caravan secure wheel clamp, a hitch lock and a factory fitted alarm, if they want my van that much, then they can have it. I do have a milenco wheel clamp as well but I find it hard to fit and remove, but it was highly rated in practical caravan when I bought it and the fact that I struggle probably means a thief would as well. I would not want the van back once it had been taken and used and abused. I would not spend the extra money on a tracker, its too expensive.
