Hi All , ok well we really dont want to get an awning, we have seen and heard the rows that they take to erect!!! so my question is would it be acceptable to have one of those pop up gazebos next to the caravan rather than an awning, we just want somthing to shade under rather than extend our living area , all coments much apprieciated ta Colinxx

hi lol i know but you get the knack we can have a full awning up in 30 minutes
but we only use it for week stays we use a porch for short stays easy to erect [ not when v windy lol] remember to take cheap furniture polish foR the rail, you be amazed the difference Wink there are other options with a roll out awning in a bag on the rail caravanstore here etc but if you want extra room and especially if you have kids , you need the room but its not compulsory Laughing when i was a motorhomer it was the best entertainment watching caravaners put dorema awning up Laughing Laughing but now i have a caravan shoes on other foot! BUT it ain't that bad Rolling Eyes Wink

Hi,
we are the same as Ray, use a porch awning for weekends and the full awning for longer stays. The pull out sun shades take minutes to errect, but as for your original question about a gazebo, I have been on plenty of sites where they were used and on a family trip to Wales, my parents used one and it was a great success. As long as it's not a monster size then the site owners should not have a problem.

I would love another awning like the one we bought in France. Simple, 3 poles and a light weight canopy. If you see one let me know Pleeeaaassse.

Don't Dorema or NR do something similar? We use a Caravanstore as its so easy to put up and take down (you to take it down in a hurry sometimes if there high wind!)

As you just want something to shade under then I cant recommend too highly Isabella's "Shadow", made for just that purpose.
Here is a link:

http://www.isabella.net/uk/suncanopies/isabella-suncanopies-shadow.html

It really is but a few minutes effort to put up and take down and is not left hanging and flapping on the awning rail.

As for gazebos I don't understand why you think they would be less effort than a well designed awning? What they do suffer from and I have witnessed happen is get too readily blown away, in the case I saw damaging several cars and caravans.

I have a Dorema Nice canopy awning, which is quite heavy and made of a form of plastic. The one in my picture is made of a waterproof cloth and very light.

We same as you, don't want or need an awning, and all that extra weight. We have a pull out sun canopy in a zip bag on the side of the van which gives us the shade we need. Made by Fiamma, called Caravanstore. Excellent. We also used to laugh at the caravanners when we had motorhome. Now they can laugh at us tryingto un-hitch etc.
