Hi, well after forty two years of Motor homing we have decided to convert to caravaning! This is after we returned from our ten week tour of France, when we decided that after forty years of touring Spain and France we would now prefer to take things a little easier and stick to the few places that we love in UK and "chill" spending three or four weeks at a time in the caravan and tour the areas more thoroughly than we have been able to in the MH. Although we do tow a car when touring in the UK it has to make more sense to have a bigger car and a nice caravan to return to on site at the end of the day, all set up and with more room to spread out.
We like the Hymer Nova Luxusline 545 and will probably go for that, after our experience of the present MH, a Hymer B584 which is still in excellent condition after seven years of using it for about 20/24 weeks a year, but first of course we will have to sell it.
I am considering the BMW X5 as a tug and would welcome any opinions of this suitability of this outfit. We will continue to use this for about the same number of week per year, another reason for liking the Hymer caravan, the wintering capability is same as the Hymer MH.
I shall of course miss the ease of touring in the MH and stopping just a day or two, but I hope after forty years i have had enough excitement!!

Well things are looking more promising, the MH is advertised and we have a buyer but they live in Spain!! Now they haven't offered anywhere near what we want and I have put them on hold until the advert has run a bit longer. I am a bit anxious as to their offer, what with the stories you hear about money laundering and forged money emanating from Spain, so hopefully the couple viewing tomorrow will make an offer more than the couple from Spain. What do you all think, am I being too cautious.

Nice car history;) You're right about the expensive parts and service from the dealer itself, but a X5 is a nice solid car, good choice! Should manage to tow a caravan! |

I have the same Tow Car and it tugs brilliantly. Although running costs aren't cheap on it |
